What is the difference between same day dental implants & traditional dental implants?
Traditional dental implant surgery is typically split into 2 procedures. During the first procedure, the anchor screw of the dental implant is placed. Following this, your jaw will enter a process known as osseointegration. During osseointegration, the dental implant itself adheres to the living bone of the jaw. Osseointegration can take 3-5 months, meaning the patient cannot receive his or her final tooth until this time has passed. Following this period of time, the crown can be placed on the dental implant.
On the other hand, same day dental implant surgery uses revolutionary technology that allows Dr. Pashapour and his surgical team to place your dental implant and crown on the same day, immediately restoring your smile. During immediate dental implant surgery, we can replace a missing tooth or remove a damaged, broken, or unhealthy tooth and place a dental implant immediately.
When are same day dental implants suggested?
Teeth-in-a-day are often suggested if you have proper jawbone density. Dental implants require adequate jawbone density for a secure foundation for the new teeth. In patients who lack adequate jawbone density, bone grafting will have to be performed in order to promote bone growth to stabilize your dental implant. Patients with adequate jawbone density may be candidates for same day dental implant surgery. Additionally, same day dental implants are most effective at replacing missing teeth at the front of the mouth.
What should I expect from teeth-in-a-day surgery in Washington, DC?
The specific details of each same day dental implant surgery will vary depending on how many teeth you are having replaced. The dental implants used during same day dental implant surgery are comprised of 3 parts, including the anchor screw, dental abutment, and dental crown.
The first step in same day dental implant surgery is to place the anchor screw. The anchor screw is the bottommost portion of the dental implant that is directly inserted into the gum tissue and jawbone. The anchor screw mimics the root structure of your natural tooth, providing a stable base for your dental crown.
The dental abutment will then be placed on top of the anchor screw. This abutment is designed to securely fasten the anchor screw to the dental crown. After the abutment is secured, we will place the crown. Following your same day dental implant procedure, your same day dental implant will heal and become securely fixed to your jawbone and gum tissue. This will allow you to treat your same day dental implant like a natural tooth once you fully heal from your teeth-in-a-day procedure. At Pashapour Oral + Facial Surgery, we guarantee the life of your same day implants.
